Information for Base Schools
Base schools retain primary enrolment and funding responsibility for students undertaking CHES programs. Schools assign supervisors to support their students, facilitate communication with CHES and universities, and assist with wellbeing and academic progress. Detailed guidelines and expectations are outlined in our Base School Handbook and School Briefings.
In terms of funding, base schools retain full funding for students undertaking Higher Education Studies (HES) through CHES, counting these students as full-time (1.0 FTE). There is no cost to schools for student participation in HES or Enrichment Electives.
For students studying VCE subjects at CHES, base schools count them as part-time (0.1 FTE) for the CHES portion, retaining the rest of the funding.
Base schools must appoint a staff member as a school supervisor for each student studying at CHES and notify CHES promptly if this changes. The supervisor plays an important role in supporting the student during their CHES program.
